Bespoke Ironwork and Blacksmith courses – Bowral –  Southern Highlands NSW – ONLY 90 minutes from Sydney

Due to public demand for bespoke, locally made ironwork and people from all walks of life wanting to experience this ancient craft, we have decided to extend the Blacksmith shop in Wildes Meadow, in the magnificent Southern Highlands of NSW.

People also forget, but we’re only 90 minutes form Sydney.

The 1910 Ironworks was initially set up nearly 6 years ago in Wildes Meadow to capture the the feeling of the Australian country Blacksmith Smith from the 1880s. A place where time has stood still and hand operated and handmade are the order of the day. Here you will learn the old traditional way blacksmiths worked and produced their staggering array of everyday items for the local community.

No, we don’t teach welding techniques, unless it’s forge welding at the forge, hot riveting or collaring the steel. Our processes are timeless, we take our time using original, restored tools, we restore the past while forging the antiquities of tomorrow.

Needles to say we use electricity and power tools for cutting, pressing and power hammering steel as part of our business, but the hand forging and restoration side of what we do has not changed in a 1,000 years.

We offer a selection of Blacksmith Courses too and these will be extended in 2020, where we’ll offer more variety in our course structure. However, our beginner and basic Blacksmith courses remain the most popular, with students from these classes going on to become seasoned Blacksmiths in their own right. We also keep our courses small and will continue to do so. Why? So as all students get one one tuition and professional help, because at the 1910 Ironworks we teach individuals not serial numbers!
