Due to the ongoing demand for experiencing the artisan crafts, Steve Hogwood, Artist and Master Metalsmith is now offering LIMITED private one-on-one blacksmithing classes. Now in his 70’s, he is only taking on SERIOUS STUDENTS, budding blacksmiths or metal artisans, who have a passion for the old crafts. The courses offered are for a full day where you’ll get truly personal one on one tuition.
The venue is very traditional as well. Step back in time to 1880s Australia for a day and experience what it was like to work with the local village smith over 140 years ago!
Learn the art of true blacksmithing, starting with the basics and working with hand tools from the 19th Century.
You may also choose to do a series of blacksmithing courses, increasing your skills with every class, until you can truly master the full art of blacksmithing?
These are NOT traditional artisan classes for anyone, unless you’re serious about getting some real experience at the forge with a Master Smith.
Blacksmithing can also be very physically demanding sometimes, yet creatively very satisfying!
Steve is passionate about teaching you the steps of this ancient art slowly, so that your body can adjust to the physical effort required to hot forge at the anvil and to also help you build up your strength and artisan skills.
The courses are very flexible too. They run from 10.30am – 4.30pm and can be booked over the weekend or week days.
We also include everything you need for the day, such as all PPE gear, materials, equipment, and an enjoyable light lunch on the veranda of the 1910 blacksmith shop or in the kitchen of an 1870s farm house!
