Here’s what some of the students had to say…
These blacksmith classes are a fantastic day out. Steve is a fantastic craftsman, a great instructor and (thankfully) a very patient man 😂. Get along and learn this fantastic ancient trade. Would make a great Christmas present !!
Greg Berrell / Wollongong
“A very enjoyable day” Garry Studd – Carpenter and Cabinet maker / Bowral
“I had an amazing day and learnt so much” Dave Read / Carpenter / Robertson
The blacksmith courses at Wildes Meadow are a lot of fun, a place where you get to use original tools from a long gone era…
Please note we also keep the classes small and one on one, so tuition is very personal and places are very limited.
Why not join us and step back in time with Master Blacksmith Steve Hogwood, in an authentic Blacksmith shop from the 1880s and experience how the past was forged.
Please note – These courses were designed for beginners and budding blacksmiths and are adapted on the day to fit individual learning needs.
As you can see above, the 2018 Hammer & Tongs Blacksmith courses have been very successful and booked out quickly. We’re now in our 10th month and going strong, thanks to you and the growing interest and artisans returning to the old crafts.
I’ve had students from all walks of life – with my first lady smith joining us in November 2018! Very exciting, and I’m sure she’ll give the boysa run for their money!!

We pack a lot into a day and the $240 fee for the day includes everything. All safety gear, equipment, and steel, and a light lunch is served on the veranda of the Blacksmith shop, where you can relax among the rolling hills of the Meadow – all you have to bring along is your passion and enthusiasm.
Fire/heat control of the forge, drawing out, upsetting, hot riveting, and making your first pair of blacksmith tongs.
Nail making is something we teach our students, because of the techniques required to make one. Hey, they look really easy to make, but…
