Here’s what some of the students had to say…

These blacksmith classes are a fantastic day out. Steve is a fantastic craftsman, a great instructor and (thankfully) a very patient man 😂. Get along and learn this fantastic ancient trade. Would make a great Christmas present !!  Greg Berrell / Wollongong

“A very enjoyable day” Garry Studd – Carpenter and Cabinet maker / Bowral

“I had an amazing day and learnt so much” Dave Read / Carpenter / Robertson

Please note we also keep the classes small and one on one, so places are very limited.

Work in an authentic 1880s Village Blacksmiths Shop and make your first set of tongs for your own shop…

Why not join us and step back in time with Master Blacksmith Steve Hogwood, in an authentic Blacksmith shop from the 1880s and experience how the past was forged.

Please note – These courses were designed for beginners and budding blacksmiths and are adapted on the day to fit individual learning needs.

As you can see above, the 2018 Hammer & Tongs Blacksmith courses have been very successful and booked out quickly. We’re now in our 10th month and going strong, thanks to you and the growing interest and artisans returning to the old crafts.

The black smithing classes started in Wildes Meadow over 10 months ago now and have proved very popular locally, attracting enthusiasts from the  ACT,  South Coast, interstate and Sydney. We have only x4 classes left for this year, so to avoid disappointment please book quickly – stephen.hogwood@optusnet.com.au
I’ve had students from all walks of life – but no Lady smiths as yet!
I try and keep the classes reasonably priced and small – that is, to a maximum of 4 to 5 students per session, this is for safety reasons and one on one tuition.
We pack a lot into a day and the $240 fee for the day includes everything. All safety gear, equipment, and steel, and a light lunch is served on the veranda of the Blacksmith shop, where you can relax among the rolling hills of the Meadow – all you have to bring along is your passion and enthusiasm.
These courses fill fast as there is a very strong and growing interest in Blacksmithing and the old artisan crafts around the world.
I also still break the students up in my classes according to experience and our courses cover many aspects of the Blacksmith’s trade :-
Fire/heat control of the forge, drawing out, upsetting, hot riveting, and making your first pair of blacksmith tongs.

All inclusive cost per course is $240 per student Inc. GST and lunch.
Payable prior to the class to secure your place and is only refundable if the class, for what ever reason does not proceed.

Once again, many thanks for all your support and interest in bringing these old crafts back to life for future generations. Hopefully we’ll see you soon for an informative fun filled blacksmithing class in the Meadow.
Cheers, Steve.
