August 4th and the 11th Blacksmithing Classes are now booked out, so we’re now taking bookings for the 1st and 15th of September.

In the last two Hammer Tongs Blacksmithing courses we decided to offer something a little different. That was, to get budding blacksmiths to experience the combination of metal and wood, or interesting ways of utilising forged iron work on timber.

Unfortunately these courses are now booked out, however we are now taking bookings for September 1st and 15th due to popular demand and a waiting list!!

In our next series of classes we will be exploring how you make tools for your own shop, such as making tongs, drifts, punches, hammers, cold sets, hot sets and the art of forging and fabrication.

Here’s what some of the students had to say…

“Fantastic day yet again Steve, thank you” Greg Berrell / Wollongong

“A very enjoyable day” Garry Studd – Carpenter and Cabinet maker / Bowral

“I had an amazing day and learnt so much” Dave Read / Carpenter / Robertson

Please note we also keep the classes small and one on one, so places are very limited.

Work in an authentic 1880s Village Blacksmiths Shop…

Why not join us and step back in time with Steve Hogwood, a seasoned Blacksmith in an authentic Blacksmith shop from the 1880s and experience how the past was forged.

Please note – These courses were designed for beginners and budding blacksmiths and are adapted on the day to fit individual learning needs.

The August Hammer & Tongs Blacksmith courses have been very successful and are now booked out. We’re now in our 7th month and going strong, thanks to you and the growing interest and artisans returning to the old crafts.

The black smithing classes started in Wildes Meadow over 6 months ago now and have proved very popular locally, attracting enthusiasts from the  ACT,  South Coast, interstate and Sydney.
I keep the classes reasonably priced and small – that is, to a maximum of x5 students per session, this is for safety reasons and one on one tuition.
We pack a lot into a day and the $240 fee for the day includes everything. All safety gear, equipment, and steel, and a light lunch is served on the veranda of the Blacksmith shop, where you can relax among the rolling hills of the Meadow – all you have to bring along is your passion and enthusiasm.
The new September 1st course is now open, but they fill fast from a waiting list and a very strong interest in Blacksmithing and the old artisan crafts.
I have been asked to do another Beginners course too, however, I still break the students up according to experience and requirements – Such as, the next course series in September, which comprise of :-
Fire/heat control of the forge, drawing out, upsetting, hot riveting, forging nails/spikes and making a selection of blacksmith tools.

All inclusive cost per course is $240 per student Inc. GST and lunch.
Payable prior to the class to secure your place and is only refundable if the class, for what ever reason does not proceed.

These classes are very popular and I now run two courses a month, given work commitments. New courses listed usually fill in just over a week and I now unfortunately have a waiting list. So, if you wish to book, let me know ASAP so as I can secure you a place in the NEW September courses.

Once again, many thanks for all your support and interest in bringing these old crafts bacxk to life for future generations. Hopefully we’ll see you on Saturday September the 1st or on the15th for an informative fun filled blacksmithing class.
Cheers, Steve.
