Learn all about the secret lives of bees with TIM MALFROY!

DATE: Sun 27th April 2014
TIME: 10am – 4.30pm
WHERE: The Lost + Found Headquarters. Northern Beaches, Sydney.

Spend an inspiring day on The Lost + Found property with passionate natural beekeeper & artisan honey producer Tim Malfroy.

Tim is a second generation apiarist and pioneer of the Warré hive and method in Australia. His award-winning honey and honeycomb are regularly featured at some of Australia’s finest restaurants, and his courses on Natural Beekeeping have started a grass roots revolution in alternative beekeeping.

This workshop will consist of number of theoretical and practical sessions, including hive openings and an end of season honey pressing!

Tim will spend some time talking about the art and craft of keeping bees, with a detailed description of the hallmarks of natural beekeeping using three different types of hives: the Warré, Kenyan and Langstroth.

However, this workshop is not merely designed as a brief ‘how-to’. Instead, it serves as an introduction to the ‘Secret Life of Bees’; their history and mystery, importance as pollinators, and their honey, honeycomb and beeswax. The theoretical sessions will provide context to the hive openings and honey tastings, infusing each event with additional meaning and understanding.

There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions, and Tim will be able to provide individual advice about your journey into beekeeping, candle making, or bee-friendly gardening.

You will enjoy an indulgent long table lunch with dishes showcasing honey from The Lost + Found Department’s own beehives, and Tim’s exceptional, rare, varietal honey and honeycomb from his apiaries in the Blue Mountains and Central Tablelands.

NB. Hive openings are weather permitting. Each student will be provided with protective clothing ie veils and bee jackets, however, if you are highly allergic to bee stings, please let us know!

Be there – because I will, cheers, Steve!
